January 18th | 6 pm @ Clock-Out Lounge
Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the 26th annual Expansions MLK Unity Party, hosted by Seattle’s own KEXP. This long-running celebration brings the community together to reflect on Dr. King’s life, work, and values through music, connection, and shared joy. The event kicks off with a live broadcast of Sunday Soul featuring DJ Supreme La Rock, setting the tone with a soulful, energetic start that invites guests to move, listen, and gather. From there, the celebration continues with a special edition of Expansions, hosted by DJs Riz Rollins, Brit Hansen, Kid Hops, and Alex, who guide the evening with a rich mix of soul, jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and rock.
Beyond the music, the Unity Party offers an opportunity to connect with neighbors, friends, and fellow community members in a space that encourages conversation, reflection, and celebration. Attendees can also enjoy slices of Stevie’s Famous pizza, grounding the experience with food and fellowship. Designed for the 21-and-up crowd, this event balances thoughtful homage with lively entertainment, creating a space where the music, memories, and meaning of Dr. King’s legacy can be honored together. INSPIRE | Whim W’Him Winter ‘26
January 16th – 24th | Various times @ Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center
Winter at Whim W’Him has arrived, and the Seattle-based contemporary dance company is kicking off 2026 with a bold and ambitious lineup. This season, three new works from choreographers who have helped shape the company’s artistic voice—FLOCK (Alice Klock and Florian Lochner), Emilie Leriche, and Olivier Wevers—offer audiences a chance to experience dance that is both technically daring and emotionally resonant. Each piece explores themes of connection, transformation, and vulnerability, prioritizing emotional clarity over spectacle while showcasing the unique strengths of Whim W’Him’s dancers.
From the fluid, intuitive movement of FLOCK to Leriche’s inward, introspective structures and Wevers’ blend of honesty and visual precision, the program presents a cohesive meditation on what dance can reveal about the human experience. Audiences can expect performances that are intimate yet expansive, grounded in strong technical skill and a sensitivity to the emotional and psychological landscapes of each work. Winter at Whim W’Him is more than a series of performances; it’s an invitation to reflect on the ways movement can illuminate our relationships, our inner worlds, and the shared threads that connect us all. This season promises to be a stirring, thought-provoking start to the year for contemporary dance lovers and newcomers alike.
